Mr. He Changqun (1903-1973), styled Zangyun, was from Mabian Yi Autonomous County, Sichuan Province. He was a famous historian, literary historian, and educator in China. From a young age, he came from a poor family and relied on the support of relatives and friends to pursue his education. During his middle school years, influenced by the May Fourth New Culture Movement, he traveled to Shanghai with a strong patriotic passion and enrolled at Shanghai University. Due to financial difficulties, he dropped out of school and joined the Translation and Compilation Department of the Commercial Press. With remarkable perseverance, he diligently and extensively studied numerous fields, including literature, Chinese and foreign history, philosophy, psychology, linguistics, and art archaeology. He began publishing articles in publications such as Literary Weekly Report, Silk Worms, Eastern Journal, and Monthly Novel Report, and joined the Literary Research Association. In 1930, he went to Japan, immersing himself in the rich collection of the Toyo Bunko. At the same time, he conducted in-depth research on the field of Sinology in Japan. Upon returning to China, he developed a strong interest in northwest archaeology, the history of Sino-Western transportation, Dunhuang studies, bamboo slip studies, and the political and cultural history of the Han and Tang dynasties, thus embarking on a lifelong path as a historian.
