Patient's question:
Main symptoms: Prostatic calcification Onset time: September 2018 Test results: Ultrasound examination showed mild calcification in the prostate and testicles Past treatment and effectiveness: Please ask the expert, what is the physiological condition of prostatic and testicular calcification? Can you explain the cause and consequences of this condition? How should it be treated? Thank youDoctor's answer:
Prostatic calcification and fibrosis are scars left by inflammation in the prostate, often indicating the precursor to prostatic calculi. Prostatic calculi are frequently accompanied by chronic prostatitis and can generally be detected through ultrasound examinations. Due to the unique anatomical structure of the prostate, there is usually no effective treatment for calcification or stones. Bacteria tend to grow on calcified (fibrotic) stones and calculi, making them a recurring cause of prostatitis that should not be ignored.Prostatic cysts are more common in adults, with diabetics being particularly susceptible. Clinical manifestations include urinary or bowel obstruction, with urinary obstruction often leading to acute urinary retention. At times, purulent secretions may be discharged from the urethra. Digital rectal examination may reveal fluctuation in the prostate, though this is often observed in later stages. Occasionally, abscesses may rupture into the urethra, rectum, perineum, or periurethral space, causing connective tissue inflammation. However, some patients may not experience fever, with the primary symptom being lower urinary tract obstruction. Many patients also develop orchitis and epididymitis.
Surgical treatment for cysts primarily involves drainage, such as perineal incision drainage or transurethral resection of the prostate. If prostatic calcification or stones are present, treatment is necessary. Calcification can progress into stones, causing various symptoms. Some patients may experience persistent symptoms that do not subside, requiring comprehensive examinations to check for stones or calcification. Without treating stones or calcification, it is difficult to achieve a complete cure for prostatic diseases.
