Features: Batman is a world-famous classic comic series. Since its debut in Detective Comics issue #27 in 1939, it has been adapted into nearly 100 films and TV series over the past six decades. Among them, the four Batman films directed and produced by Tim Burton—Batman (1989), Batman Returns (1992), Batman Forever (1995), and Batman & Robin (1997)—are highly acclaimed. When Batman was released in 1989, fans were amazed. Tim Burton's eerie and unconventional style, along with the fairy-tale-like atmosphere he created, transformed this commercial film into an artistic classic. Especially, the Joker played by the famous actor Jack Nicholson stole the spotlight. In 1992, Tim Burton's second Batman Returns, despite its decent box office, had a slower pace and failed to capture the comic book feel audiences expected. Therefore, Tim Burton stepped back to produce, bringing in Joel Schumacher, a renowned director of Hollywood blockbusters like The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, to direct the third installment, Batman Forever. In terms of casting, Schumacher chose the enigmatic actor Val Kilmer and introduced many innovative filming techniques, including the extensive use of digital technology for animation. As a result, the third Batman film became the audience's favorite, and Val Kilmer gained significant fame. Due to disagreements with Schumacher and his demand for higher pay being rejected, Val Kilmer withdrew from the subsequent Batman films, and the fourth installment, Batman & Robin, was instead played by the big-name star George Clooney as Batman. In the recent trend of comic book movie mania, the fifth Batman film, Batman Begins, directed by Christopher Nolan and starring Christian Bale, will premiere on June 17 next year.
