What medications can be taken to treat balanitis?

Patient's question:

Detailed medical condition and consultation purpose: I was diagnosed with chlamydia balanitis, later diagnosed with balanoposthitis. It has been 20 days so far. Initially, it was just red spots and redness on the glans, but now the inflammation has subsided with Daktarin, but the red spots are still there, and there is mild urinary frequency. I took azithromycin orally for 14 days and cefalexin drops for 3 days to reduce inflammation. After using Daktarin for 3 days, the mucosa outside the glans has become hardened and shows a tendency to peel. Should Daktarin continue to be used? If oral antibiotics are needed, what medication should be used? For how long???

Doctor's answer:

This is a fungal balanitis. Generally, it is transmitted during sexual intercourse when the female has a fungal vaginal infection. Typically, antifungal cream such as ketoconazole is applied to the glans, and antifungal treatment should be continued for at least one week to completely eliminate the fungus. If there is phimosis, circumcision should be performed as soon as possible.
