Patient's question:
Blisters on the tongue, started intravenous infusion today. I want to know what are the symptoms of hand, foot, and mouth disease in children?Doctor's answer:
Hello. Before the onset of hand, foot, and mouth disease, there are usually no obvious symptoms. Most children suddenly develop the illness with a fever around 38°C. Some children may also experience cold-like symptoms such as coughing and runny nose. The illness starts acutely with fever, followed by the appearance of maculopapules and vesicles on the palms or soles, and may also appear on the knees, buttocks, and perianal area. The surrounding skin of the rash shows inflammatory erythema, and the vesicles contain less fluid. The oral mucosa may develop scattered vesicles with significant pain. Some children may also experience coughing, runny nose, poor appetite, nausea, vomiting, and headaches. After 12 days of fever, the rash may begin to appear again, typically on the palms and soles, but it can also appear on the buttocks.
