Patient's question:
My glans recently suddenly appeared some small red spots, not painful or itchy. Is it balanitis? What are the symptoms of balanitis?Doctor's answer:
Hello: It is possible! There are several types of balanitis, with the following symptoms:(1) Acute superficial balanitis
Initially, there is local redness, redness and swelling of the penis skin, with a burning and itching sensation in the glans. When the foreskin is retracted, it can be seen that the inner surface of the foreskin and the glans are congested and eroded, with exudate, even bleeding. Secondary infection may lead to small ulcers and foul-smelling, creamy purulent discharge. Friction with underwear causes pain, and patients often experience difficulty in movement. It may be accompanied by swollen and painful inguinal lymph nodes.
(2) Annular erosive balanitis
On the glans and foreskin, red patches can be seen, gradually expanding into a ring shape, which may form superficial ulcers.
(3) Candidal balanitis
Red patches can be seen on the foreskin and glans, with a smooth surface and small vesicles. The edges of the red patches are relatively clear, and during acute episodes, erosion and exudate may occur.
(4) Trichomoniasis balanitis
The glans develops papules and red patches, which gradually expand with clear margins. Tiny vesicles the size of needles can be seen on the red patches, eventually forming eroded surfaces.
