Patient's question:
Detailed medical condition and consultation purpose: I have had balanitis for nearly two months. During this period, I took 5 days of cephalexin, azithromycin, and ofloxacin, but the effect was not significant. Later, I took nearly 7 days of fluconazole and azithromycin dispersible tablets, but the effect was also not significant. Initially, there were only pale red ulcers and on the foreskin, but now there are two red areas on the glans, with one area broken. When swabbed with a cotton swab, there is a sensation of pain. How should this be treated?Duration of the current illness: Nearly two months
Current general condition: Currently, there are two red areas on the glans, with one area broken.
Doctor's answer:
Hello:Treatment for balanoposthitis: The glans can be soaked in a 1:5000 potassium permanganate solution locally, twice a day, or use cotton swabs dipped in a 1:1000 solution of povidone-iodine to gently clean any discharge or pus. Avoid using various ointments and powders, as they may worsen the condition. For severe systemic reactions, antibiotics can be added. If the general treatment is not effective, special attention should be paid to the diagnosis and treatment of specific pathogenic microorganisms. If Candida is found in the discharge, local administration of nystatin or clotrimazole should be given. If Trichomonas is detected in the discharge, metronidazole should be taken orally. If suspected sexually transmitted diseases are present, Neisseria gonorrhoeae should be checked in the discharge, and differentiation from hard chancre and soft chancre should be noted.
