How is male infertility treated?

Patient's question:

How is male infertility treated?

Doctor's answer:

Hello, if the male's sperm quality is problematic, medication is generally ineffective. Sperm issues are caused by problems in the sperm production function itself, and currently, there is no medication that can treat it. If the decline in semen quality is caused by inflammation, such as prostatitis or urethritis, improving semen quality can be achieved after anti-inflammatory treatment. If it is confirmed to be oligospermia or asthenozoospermia, artificial insemination can be performed by collecting and processing semen multiple times to meet normal standards before insemination. Additionally, sperm has the highest vitality between 32°C and 37°C. If the temperature is below this range, the vitality will decrease. Some hospitals ask patients to collect sperm in the restroom. In winter, if the semen is released into a cooler container and the microscope is not equipped with a heating stage, placing a small amount of semen on a cold slide for examination under the microscope may give the false impression of low motility. It is recommended to consider visiting a regular hospital with a dedicated sperm collection room and a constant-temperature examination bench for testing and diagnosis.
