What should I do about post- circumcision swelling?

Patient's question:

Post- circumcision surgery, swelling naturally subsides over time, or does it require taking anti-inflammatory medication to reduce it? Is the anti-inflammatory medication used to treat swelling or to address infection and inflammation? If I need to take medication, would Amoxicillin and Lixiana be suitable?
Thank you, doctor!!!

Doctor's answer:

Hello: Postoperative edema can naturally subside. If symptoms such as pain, fever, or redness appear, anti-inflammatory medication can be administered. Amoxicillin and Rulide can be taken. The cause of edema is the interruption of blood and lymphatic vessels in the skin after a circumcision, with new circulation pathways not yet established, leading to poor drainage. Generally, it takes 2-3 weeks to recover, though in some cases, it may take more than 3 months. However, there is no need to panic, as the swelling will naturally subside once new circulation forms. If the edema persists for a long time, it is recommended to revisit the hospital to prevent secondary infection.
Postoperatively, maintain cleanliness and dryness in the surgical area. Sexual activity should only be resumed one month after the surgery. Avoid spicy or irritating foods, as well as foods that are considered "heating" such as chicken, duck, beef, lamb, and seafood for the first two weeks. Keep the wound dry and avoid contact with water. Drink less water before bedtime and do not hold urine. If you feel the urge to urinate, go to the toilet promptly to prevent erections. If an erection occurs, get up and move around to urinate and relieve tension.
