Features: "Can you buy the sky, the tenderness of the land, the running antelope when all the wild cattle are extinct? How can you buy them back?" This is a passage from Chief Seattle of a small Native American tribe on the western coast of North America, who questioned the white people coming to buy land during the distant cowboy and redwood era. In just a few lines, it accuses humanity of its ruthless and brutal treatment of the land, as well as the endless greed of the human heart! Yet over a hundred years have passed, and those who bought the land back then, like a snake eating its own tail, have gradually tasted the bitter fruit of greed. Meanwhile, Chief Seattle's words, like a star that never falls, quietly guard the earth, sky, rivers, and hearts that have been devoured and eroded by money, materialism, and greed. His words have been continuously translated, rewritten, and adapted into poems and plays, spreading in people's hearts. This book is a touching picture book specially drawn for children by Robert Indiana, an Australian Illustrator who won the Hans Christian Andersen Award. Not only that, the artist also attempts to reconstruct the historical background of that time from historical records with astonishing realistic techniques, allowing readers to experience the moment, place, and reason behind Chief Seattle's words, thereby witnessing their meaning and impact. On the other hand, he blends gentle and rugged colors—yellow and brown of the earth, blue and green of the river—to depict the moving times when humans and nature intertwined. It feels as if we are standing barefoot in the vast wilderness with the wind rustling the grass, listening to the whispers in the wind and the murmurs of the river.
