Fiber Optic Technology: Theoretical Basis and Applications

Author: Wu Jian
Publisher:
Publish Date: 2006-07-01
Features: This book is based on the "Fifteenth Five-Year Plan" key textbook construction program of the National Defense Science and Technology Industry Commission, and is an expanded and revised version of the original textbooks "Dielectric Waveguides and Their Applications" and "Fundamentals of Fiber Optics." The manuscript embodies the teaching and research achievements of the author, especially the young Ph.D. students working in teaching and research. The book consists of seven chapters.
Chapter 1 summarizes the fundamental knowledge of ray optics, wave optics, and electromagnetic field theory related to the content of this book.
Chapters 2 and 3 cover the basics of optical waveguides and fibers, focusing on introducing the fundamental methods and approaches for studying optical waveguides, as well as understanding the transmission characteristics of modes, dispersion, loss, polarization, and nonlinearity in optical waveguides from a physical perspective.
Chapter 4 introduces the theory of optical waveguide mode coupling, and applies the theory of coupled modes with examples of optical waveguide devices.
Chapter 5 explains the principles and characteristics of common optical fiber waveguide devices.
Chapter 6 covers fiber optic communication systems and optical network technologies.
Chapter 7 categorizes various fiber optic sensors based on their working principles and introduces their principles, discussing the characteristics of fiber optic sensing systems through several typical examples.
This book can serve as a technical foundation and professional course textbook for senior undergraduate students in optoelectronics majors in universities, as well as a textbook for relevant graduate courses. It can also be referenced by graduate students and engineering technicians in communication-related and related fields.
