Is chronic prostatitis harmful?

Patient's question:

I recently don't know what's wrong, my lower body is very uncomfortable, and I'm not getting morning erections anymore. Is chronic prostatitis harmful?

Doctor's answer:

The treatment goals for chronic prostatitis primarily focus on relieving pain, improving urinary symptoms, and enhancing quality of life. Antibiotics, α-blockers, plant-based preparations, and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs can be used. Other medications also have varying degrees of efficacy in alleviating symptoms.
There is a certain effect, but comprehensive treatment is required. Avoiding irritating diets, moderating sexual activity, hot sitz baths, physical therapy, or prostate massage can promote inflammation absorption and drainage. Medications are mainly anti-infective agents that can easily penetrate the prostate barrier, such as erythromycin, cotrimoxazole, doxycycline, and rifampicin. For non-infectious causes, it is also important to identify and exclude triggers.
