Features: English teaching cannot be separated from the guidance of teaching syllabi, and one of the most important quantitative standards in English teaching syllabi is the prescribed vocabulary volume for understanding and reuse, along with the corresponding vocabulary list. The English teaching syllabus vocabulary list is a most important basis for vocabulary coverage and word selection in English textbook compilation, classroom teaching, and test question setting. In China, the field of postgraduate English teaching has long followed the "Teaching Syllabus for Master's/Doctoral Degree Postgraduate English" promulgated by the former State Education Commission in November 1992 for trial implementation. Due to various reasons, this syllabus and its vocabulary list have never been formally revised or updated to this day. Meanwhile, the syllabus for the preliminary stage of postgraduate English education—college English—has been revised multiple times since 1995 under the direct care and guidance of the Ministry of Education, with its vocabulary list subsequently adding new words and phrases several times. In line with this, the vocabulary list of the National Postgraduate English Entrance Examination syllabus promulgated by the Ministry of Education has also been revised and supplemented multiple times. Additionally, the vocabulary list of the "Teaching Syllabus for English Examination for Applicants with Equivalent Academic Qualifications Seeking Master's Degrees" promulgated by the State Council's Department of Western Hemispheric Affairs in 1999 clearly contains many more new words and phrases compared to the vocabulary list of the postgraduate English teaching syllabus for formal academic education, due to the revisions and supplements of the college English teaching syllabus vocabulary list.
