The main features of this book are as follows:
1. This book does not provide a detailed introduction to the methods of collecting statistical data. The collection of statistical data is a very complex basic task that is both scientific and artistic. For large-scale statistical surveys, this work should be designed and supervised by statistical specialists. For financial and accounting personnel, they accumulate a large amount of data in their daily work, generally do not need to conduct large-scale statistical surveys to obtain data, but they should have a certain understanding of statistical data and their nature, which is beneficial to their analysis and application in practical operations.
2. This book introduces the basic statistical analysis methods by combining the computer software Excel. The basic statistical analysis methods may seem abstract to many financial and accounting personnel, making it difficult to learn. Excel spreadsheets are widely used in financial and accounting work, and many financial and accounting personnel are familiar with and proficient in using Excel. This book systematically introduces basic statistical knowledge suitable for financial and accounting personnel while completely avoiding the mathematical derivation of statistical models and formulas. It focuses on using Excel software to demonstrate statistical analysis methods and their applications, which is beneficial for the learning, understanding, and application of financial and accounting personnel. This organizational approach is not commonly seen in similar textbooks both domestically and internationally.
3. The content selected in this book are all the basic statistical knowledge that financial and accounting personnel need to master. For example, financial and accounting personnel often face a large amount of data and need to identify the characteristics and patterns of this data, thereby establishing models that reflect reality and using them for prediction and management. This is a common problem encountered by financial and accounting personnel. This book introduces statistical analysis methods around this main theme and uses numerous examples to demonstrate the concept of "learning by doing," aiming to achieve the effect of "generalizing from the specific." For this reason, we have not introduced the content of variance analysis, which is commonly covered in general statistics textbooks (this part is also extensively covered and applied in Excel software), nor have we introduced some statistical topics such as non-parametric statistics and multivariate analysis. However, we have included the content of time series analysis and statistical index analysis. Of course, the content of this book can be selected based on actual needs.
4. This book strives to choose examples suitable for financial and accounting personnel. According to the characteristics of statistics, we know that statistics is a methodological science that is almost applicable to almost every discipline, and therefore, there are numerous examples to illustrate statistical analysis methods. However, in this book, the examples we have selected are all related to economics and management and are common and easily understandable for financial and accounting personnel.
