Features: This tutorial provides systematic and diverse extracurricular reading materials for non-English majors, aiming to cultivate students' proficiency in using reading skills, accurately understanding passages, expanding their knowledge and cultural horizons, and enhancing their reading comprehension and appreciation. The College English series is a novel, multi-dimensional supplementary textbook composed of books, audio-visual materials, CDs, and online resources. Since its release in 2001, it has been widely welcomed and praised by schools in use. As this series fully implements the basic requirements for college foreign language teaching proposed by the Ministry of Education, it has been selected as the "National Planning Textbook for General Higher Education 'Fifteen-Year Plan'" and the "Ministry of Education Recommended College Foreign Language Textbook." The series includes one volume each of Comprehensive Tutorial, Listening and Speaking Tutorial, Reading Tutorial, Reading Tutorial, and Fast Reading from 1 to 6, plus one Grammar Handbook. Due to China's vast territory, teaching resources, faculty, and student needs vary across regions and institutions. Therefore, it is necessary to implement classified guidance and tiered teaching. To maximize the College English series' ability to meet the needs of students at different levels, with different proficiency levels, and different learning objectives, we have specifically organized and planned the preparatory level of this series, which includes one volume each of Comprehensive Tutorial and Listening and Speaking Tutorial, written by British experts familiar with college English teaching in China. This textbook is strictly compiled according to the actual needs of college English teaching in China, with a difficulty level lower than that of College English Level 1 while maintaining a logical connection with it. Each unit of this textbook is organized thematically, enabling students to comprehensively and deeply master rich linguistic knowledge, acquire cultural information, and develop their comprehensive application skills in listening, speaking, reading, writing, and translation. The after-class exercises are designed to be diverse, targeted, engaging, and challenging. In terms of material selection, emphasis is placed on the comparison of Chinese and Western cultures to cultivate students' cultural literacy and awaken their local and cross-cultural awareness.
