Features: In today's emphasis on the communicative nature of language learning, English teaching in secondary schools often treats grammar as an unpleasant but indispensable task. As teachers with years of experience in teaching and researching English at the secondary level, we do not agree with the idea of "weakening" grammar. It has been proven that in many cases, our students do not have a strong grasp of grammar. We recognize the positioning of "Communication (Language Communication): Knowledge (Language Knowledge) + Situation (Pragmatic Context)," and we support the idea of letting learners observe real language, grasp its rules, develop grammatical awareness, and improve their ability to use grammar and vocabulary effectively in different contexts through practical training. For this purpose, we have compiled this series of books. The content and features of this book are as follows:
Grammar Items: The book contains 18 units (UNITS), with each unit covering one grammar item, covering the "Grammar Items List" in the "Senior High School English Teaching Syllabus" (which is also part of the college entrance examination syllabus), and fully referencing the relevant content of the "Senior High School English Curriculum Standards" as well as the current textbooks for each corresponding grade level.
Grammar Points: Each unit lists several grammar points (POINTS), either in simple descriptions or by providing typical structures. The selection and establishment of these points are based on the following two considerations: First, the basic structures or key points that need to be mastered; second, the easily confused or mistaken areas in learning, i.e., the difficulties. This book reflects the requirements of English teaching and exams while also being a valuable crystallization of the compilers' years of teaching experience.
Examples and Explanations: After each grammar point (POINT), typical examples (EXAMPLES) and brief explanations (EXPLANATIONS) are provided in a tabular format for easy comparison and clarity. This is a grammar book with examples (Exemplified Grammar): It aims to help learners understand the three-dimensional nature of grammar—i.e., "Language Form + Language Meaning + Language Use"—through observing a certain number of typical examples. This way, they can master grammar in real language use and lay a solid foundation for using English grammar correctly and appropriately. Combined with typical examples, brief explanations (EXPLANATIONS) analyze the form and structure, as well as the corresponding meaning or potential differences, pointing out the relevant language use or function.
TIPS: When necessary, knowledge related to a specific grammar structure is provided in the form of "TIPS," especially the vocabulary applicable to that grammar. We believe that grammar is not just isolated and rigid rules; it should and needs to be mastered through specific vocabulary, making this a grammar book that also focuses on vocabulary. Combined with the relevant grammar points, the book provides the vocabulary that may be involved, offering learners reliable material and effective help in future language use.
Practice: At the end of each unit, there is a section on PRACTICE, providing various forms of exercises based on the content of the unit. The exercises are as much as possible in the form of passages, offering readers contexts that are realistic, diverse, and close to actual use, allowing them to learn (or review) the application of the grammar they have learned in practice. We hope this book becomes a good example of "learning grammar through use," paying particular attention to habitual usages that deviate from common rules, i.e., the requirements for using grammar in real language.
