Features: With the continuous improvement of college foreign language teaching standards, the starting point for graduate foreign language learning has also been rising year by year. The College English Teaching Syllabus and the Graduate English Teaching Syllabus have been successively revised. Based on the specific needs of graduate public English teaching in the 21st century, the Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press conducted extensive and in-depth research nationwide, listened to the advice of domestic English teaching experts and scholars, and, after carefully analyzing the current state of graduate English teaching, meticulously planned and organized more than ten key universities such as Tsinghua University, Fudan University, Zhejiang University, Shandong University, Sun Yat-sen University, Dalian University of Technology, Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, etc., to launch the "New Century Graduate Public English Textbooks." The entire series of textbooks will begin to be published in the first half of 2002 and will continue to be released before the end of the year. The "New Century Graduate Public English Textbooks" have the following main features in their writing and design:
★ Exercise design and activity arrangements are centered on successful learning, emphasizing the cultivation of applied skills;
★ Given the declining listening and speaking abilities of graduate students, oral and listening skills are given special attention;
★ The text materials and genres are diverse and up-to-date;
★ Emphasis is placed on translation and writing (especially thesis writing) skills;
★ While highlighting word formation and sentence structure, the teaching of textual knowledge is also integrated.
