1. This book is compiled according to the basic concepts stipulated by the "Chinese Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education" (Experimental Edition). Its purpose is to help junior high school students improve their ability to collect and process information, understand the world, develop thinking, and gain aesthetic experiences through independent and personalized reading, thereby enhancing their Chinese literacy.
2. There are three volumes in total, designed for students in three grades. Each volume selects 81 articles with fresh perspectives, angles, and content, and distinct individuality, organized into several units based on the content of the articles. Each unit is given a title for easier reading and practice.
3. Each article includes a "Reading Notes" section. The "Reading Notes" for the articles in each unit are written by the authors, while those for the other articles are written independently by students, expressing their feelings, experiences, understanding, or reviews. The notes written by the authors can be modified, supplemented, or rewritten. We encourage you to do so.
4. A certain number of exercises are designed after each article, primarily to fulfill the reading requirements stipulated by the curriculum standards. Most articles include open-ended questions to help students independently express their answers.
5. Most of the exercises for each article provide clear answers for reference; for open-ended questions, only the requirements are stated or some guidance on thinking methods is given.
6. In this revised third edition, we have made significant adjustments to the selected articles for each unit. Two units of ancient literary works have been removed (compiled into a separate volume) and one unit of "Classic Reading" content has been added. The purpose is to enable students to more comprehensively improve their reading skills in accordance with the requirements of the curriculum standards.
