1. This book is compiled according to the basic principles of the full-time compulsory education Chinese Language Curriculum Standards (Trial Version). Its purpose is to help junior high school students improve their ability to collect and process information, understand the world, develop thinking, and gain aesthetic experiences through independent and personalized reading, thereby enhancing their Chinese language literacy.
2. There are three volumes in total, designed for students in three grades. Each volume selects 81 articles with fresh perspectives, angles, and content, as well as distinctive individuality, organized into several units based on the content of the articles. Each unit is given a title for easier reading and practice.
3. Each article includes a "Reading Notes" section. The "Reading Notes" for the articles in each unit are written by the authors, while the others are written by students independently, expressing their feelings, experiences, understanding, or reviews. The notes written by the authors can be modified, supplemented, or rewritten. We encourage you to do so.
4. A certain number of exercises are designed after each article, primarily to fulfill the reading requirements specified in the curriculum standards. Most articles include open-ended questions to help students express their answers independently.
5. Most of the exercises for each article provide clear answers for reference; for open-ended questions, only requirements are stated or hints are given in terms of thinking methods.
6. In this revised third edition, we have made significant adjustments to the selected articles in each unit. We have removed two units of ancient literary works (which have been compiled into a separate volume) and added a unit on "Classic Reading" to help students more comprehensively improve their reading skills in line with the curriculum standards.
