Features: Language is an important means of communication and an essential part of human culture. Language proficiency is the foundation for learning other subjects. Through language learning, students can develop an appreciation for their mother tongue, guide them to understand and use their mother tongue correctly, enrich their language knowledge, cultivate language awareness, develop thinking skills, enhance their moral cultivation and aesthetic appreciation, and gradually form good personalities and sound character. The above discussion fully illustrates the importance of language learning. However, language seems easy to learn but is actually difficult to master. This is because language learning is highly practical, and the main way to develop language skills should also be through language practice. Whether it is learning to read and write, engaging in oral communication, reading, or writing, students must repeatedly practice and reflect under the guidance of scientific methods to acquire these skills. Of course, learning should be scientific, and practice should be effective—simply "battling through a sea of exercises" is not enough. The compilers of this book have been engaged in primary school language teaching for decades and are well aware that one of the difficulties students face in learning language is reading and answering questions about short passages provided outside the curriculum. The reasons for this are mainly two: first, primary school students are young, have accumulated little knowledge, and lack sufficient comprehension skills. Additionally, their ability to summarize and express in writing is limited, often failing to meet the requirements. Second, some students have poor reading habits and cannot focus to understand the text or think about the questions. They may skim through the passage like a dragonfly tapping water and answer the questions without fully understanding the text or even the questions themselves, leading to unpredictable accuracy. Primary school students often fail to correctly attribute the cause of their difficulties, mistakenly thinking that "reading short passages is the hardest," fearing reading exercises and language exams, and even losing interest in and enthusiasm for language learning. To address this, we have compiled this series of "Primary School Language Step-by-Step Reading Training" books, which consists of 6 volumes and includes approximately 400 passages (including excerpts). The content is very diverse, covering topics from ancient times to the present, from China to foreign countries; including poems, fables, fairy tales, and stories; praising revolutionary leaders, scientists, and exemplary figures, as well as ordinary laborers; describing people, objects, and events, as well as science, landscapes, and using objects to express emotions. All passages have been carefully selected, paying attention to their ideological, literary, scientific, and humanistic qualities. We believe that reading these passages will not only help primary school students expand their knowledge in various areas but also benefit them in absorbing the wisdom of their national culture, developing their thinking skills, being nurtured by noble sentiments and interests, enriching their spiritual world, and fostering their individuality. Additionally, we have provided detailed answers for each selected passage to facilitate self-study or guidance from parents and teachers. Of course, due to the of language learning, it is important to respect each person's unique experience in the learning process. Therefore, some answers are not the only correct ones; as long as they are well-supported and logical, they are acceptable. Answers should not be rigid.
