Features: According to the "Teaching Syllabus for English in Secondary Vocational Schools," English is a compulsory core cultural foundation course for students of various specialties in secondary vocational schools. In accordance with this regulation, the purpose of this textbook series is: on the basis of junior high school English teaching, to enable students to consolidate and expand their foundational knowledge, develop basic skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing; to focus on cultivating students' ability to use English for communication and continuous learning; to stimulate and foster students' interest in learning, help them build confidence, develop good learning habits, and enhance self-directed learning skills, forming effective learning strategies; to develop intelligence, cultivating abilities in observation, memory, thinking, imagination, and creativity; to understand cultural differences, foster a sense of patriotism, and strengthen global awareness; and to provide students with preliminary training in English for specific purposes, laying a foundation for them to enter society and further their studies. Based on the recent development and research findings of international and domestic foreign language teaching theories, this textbook series was compiled by referring to many new elementary English textbooks. The fundamental principles of textbook compilation are "topics as the main thread" and "tasks as the main thread," meaning several language activity tasks are set within a unit, centered around a theme. The language used in the textbook is modern English, striving to reflect the differences between spoken and written language and appropriately highlighting the variations in English used in several major English-speaking countries. At the same time, attention is paid to the age characteristics of the target learners. The textbook compilation pays attention to the repeated appearance of teaching content such as language structures and vocabulary. This helps students form long-term memory and truly master the content. Some content is explained first and then repeatedly appears in later units, while some content appears in an earlier unit and is explained again in later units. The advantage of this approach is that students first gain an impression, which is then reinforced through classroom instruction to ensure mastery. The entire textbook series consists of four volumes, which can be used over four semesters or arranged according to the specific teaching conditions and professional characteristics of each school. The total teaching hours are 220, with 3-4 hours scheduled per week. This book contains 10 units, with a review unit arranged every five units, through which the main content of the preceding units is summarized and tested to help students consolidate their learning. In recent years, foreign language teaching research has increasingly emphasized the cultivation of students' learning abilities and learning strategies. This textbook has made some attempts in this regard, introducing learning methods step by step to guide students in paying attention to cultivating meaningful learning strategies.
