Features: This book is a topic-based training manual designed to guide college students in preparing for the College English Speaking Test. The book is divided into three main parts: Part 1 consists of 30 topic-based training exercises and reference answers designed according to the sample questions in the syllabus; Part 2 is Appendix 1, which includes 10 articles related to the topic scope for extended reading; Part 3 is Appendix 2, which provides a brief introduction and analysis of the College English Speaking Test, its syllabus, sample questions, strategies, and commonly used basic language functions and notional expressions. This book is a richly contented and highly practical training manual specifically designed for the speaking test. In addition to being suitable for liberal arts and science students at colleges for oral training, it also offers guidance for students taking various English speaking tests, overseas students, candidates for self-study exams, and socially-oriented individuals aspiring to improve their English speaking skills. The manual includes 30 topic-based training exercises, which fall under 5 major topic areas, from TopicArea A to TopicArea E. For example: The topic area of TopicArea A is Academic Study, which includes 6 topic-based training exercises, specifically Topics 1 to 6. Each exercise is designed according to the format of sample questions in the speaking test syllabus. The 30 exercises are presented in the form of 30 independent test papers (Papers). Each paper is marked with the topic area and specific topic in the upper right corner. For instance: The paper marked TopicA-1 indicates that it belongs to the first exercise of the Topic Area A. Each exercise consists of three parts: Part 1, Part 2, and Part 3. Immediately following each exercise is a picture or card prompt for candidates to use in their personal statements. The pictures and card prompts are generally designed for groups of three, though there are also prompts for groups of four. Each candidate is assigned a specific picture or card, labeled Candidate 1, Candidate 2, and Candidate 3 (abbreviated as C1, C2, C3). The candidates in the reference answers correspond to those in this section. After each exercise, there are Useful Words and Phrases, which are very helpful for practicing the topic and are also used in the reference answers. All questions, personal statements, and group discussions in each exercise provide reference answers, i.e., Reference Answers.
