Features: This manual is written for students of all grades in junior high school, aiming to help them learn and consolidate English vocabulary while cultivating their ability to study independently. The manual strives to select words, provide definitions, and offer examples that are suitable for the cognitive abilities, knowledge level, psychological characteristics, and developmental patterns of junior high school students. It can also serve as a review book for junior high school students and a reference for English teachers teaching vocabulary.
1. We referred to some widely used domestic and foreign dictionaries in China, including the Longman Contemporary English Dictionary co-published by the Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press and Longman Publishing Group, the Collins Chinese-English Dictionary co-published by the China Foreign Languages Press and William Collins Sons & Co. Ltd., the Longman English Dictionary co-published by Shanghai Zewen Press and Longman Asia Limited, the American Idioms Dictionary co-published by National Textbook Company and the People's Education Press, and the Modern English Usage Dictionary published by Shanghai Translation Publishing House, among others.
2. The words, phrases, and idioms selected in this manual include the vocabulary list specified in the "Teaching Syllabus for English in Full-Time Junior High Schools under the Nine-Year Compulsory Education Program" and all the words, phrases, and idioms in the newly revised junior high school English textbooks published by the People's Education Press.
3. This manual contains over 2,000 words, divided into three levels based on grade level: Level 1 is for first-year junior high school vocabulary, Level 2 is for second-year junior high school vocabulary, and Level 3 is for third-year junior high school vocabulary. A small number of words appear in multiple levels, but their meanings differ in each level.
4. All words are arranged in alphabetical order. Each word is accompanied by the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA), part of speech, and Chinese definition.
5. For words with irregular forms, their irregular changes are noted after the word.
6. Most words and phrases are illustrated with example sentences, totaling over 2,000 sentences.
7. Many headwords of central words have a "Key Points" section. This section includes common phrases, idioms, synonyms (groups), antonyms (groups), and word distinctions, all accompanied by detailed explanations and examples.
