Features: Italic script is a writing style that falls between English vertical print script and cursive script. It is also an indispensable intermediate step for learners to transition from vertical print script to cursive script. Currently, this script is widely used in English writing exercises for primary and secondary school students in China. Unlike English vertical print script, italic script primarily features a consistent slant while being written, and the degree of slant must be mastered appropriately. Additionally, most letters are connected, meaning that letters within words are required to be linked as much as possible. Compared to vertical handwritten print script, italic script has noticeably more curved strokes, especially in the final strokes of many lowercase letters, which provides favorable conditions for letter connection.
This practice workbook first introduces italic script exercises for 52 uppercase and lowercase letters and non-connected words. The purpose is to help learners familiarize themselves with the writing method of this script and master the appropriate slant of the letters. Next, exercises on letter organization and word connection are conducted, including diagonal connection, horizontal connection, self-connection or mutual connection, left non-connection, and right non-connection. On this foundation, comprehensive sentence exercises are performed. Each exercise follows the principle of gradual progression, starting with black standard models, followed by tracing exercises using dotted lines or blank grid practice.
Through these exercises, writers can basically achieve a preliminary mastery of writing English in italic script, laying a solid foundation for future learning of cursive script.
