Features: Theory always originates from the development of practice, and the development of practice requires new theory to guide it. The remarkable achievements of China's reform and opening-up over the past 20 years are the result of the combination of theory and practice, constantly exploring, practicing, and innovating according to China's specific conditions. At the beginning of the new century, our country has entered a new stage of development focused on building a moderately prosperous society in all respects and accelerating the construction of socialist modernization. Especially with the convening of the 16th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, the theme was clearly defined as "upholding the great banner of Deng Xiaoping Theory, fully implementing the important thought of 'Three Represents,' carrying forward the legacy and embracing the future, keeping pace with the times, comprehensively building a moderately prosperous society in all respects, accelerating the construction of socialist modernization, and striving to create a new situation for the cause of socialism with Chinese characteristics." In this new era and new stage of development, new requirements have been raised for the basic theory that guides our thinking. To this end, the Department of Social Sciences Research and Ideological and Political Work of the Ministry of Education has organized relevant experts and scholars from some universities to comprehensively revise the basic requirements for the teaching of "Two Courses." The new "Requirements" primarily focus on fully implementing the spirit of the 16th National Congress in the teaching of "Two Courses" in universities, intensifying the "Three Enters" work of the important thought of "Three Represents," and further enhancing the relevance and effectiveness of "Two Courses" education and teaching. The "Requirements" include significant adjustments to the content of Political Economy, and to promptly reflect these changes, we have organized the compilation of this 21st-century Political Economy textbook.
