Features: This textbook is a research outcome of the Ministry of Education's "Reform Plan for Teaching Content and Curriculum System in Higher Education Towards the 21st Century," serving as a curriculum textbook for the 21st century and a textbook under the Ministry of Education's "Nineth Five-Year Plan." Based on the "Basic Requirements for Teaching of Descriptive Geometry and Engineering Drawing Courses for Non-Mechanical Majors" and the "Basic Requirements for Teaching of Descriptive Geometry and Mechanical Drawing Courses for Mechanical Majors" issued by the former State Education Commission in 1995, this textbook was developed through research and practice by our university's teaching reform group for mechanical drawing in 30 classes across six sessions, incorporating the experiences of other institutions in teaching reform. The textbook focuses on training students in engineering drawing thinking, integrating the boundary representation method, constructive solid geometry (CSG) representation method, and sweeping representation method of computer solid modeling at the conceptual level. This allows the course to proceed along two parallel main lines: the description and configuration of shapes and the projection and representation of shapes. The textbook addresses the contradiction between shapes and drawings by introducing computer solid modeling, promoting the "emergence" of mental imagery of shape in students' brains. It aims to integrate the common foundation of manual and computer drawing—shape description and configuration, projection methods, and mechanical drawing representation methods. The content of this textbook includes: Shape and Projection of Solids, Description and Three-View Projections of Points, Lines, Planes, and Plane Solids, Description and Projection of Revolution Surfaces and Basic Revolution Solids, Description and Three-View Projections of Swept Shapes, Configuration, Description, and Three-View Projections of Composite Solids, Axonometric Projections of Solids, Representation Methods of Mechanical Drawings and Expression Schemes for Parts, Structure and Expression of Components and Appendices. The drafting national standards that must be followed but do not require explanation, as well as basic drawing methods, are included as appendices for reference during drafting. This textbook has been reviewed and approved by the Drafting Course Teaching Guidance Committee of Higher Education Engineering of the Ministry of Education. It can be used as a textbook for mechanical drawing courses (60–80 hours) for non-mechanical majors in universities, as a foundational textbook for mechanical drawing in the mechanical foundation series courses for mechanical majors, and as a textbook for relevant programs in vocational evening universities, correspondence universities, television universities, and other institutions. Accompanying this textbook are the "Mechanical Drawing Exercise Book," the multimedia courseware "Fundamentals of Projection," and the intelligent electronic exercise system software for engineering drawing, all published simultaneously by Higher Education Press for student use.
