Features: This book is the research outcome of the national project "Innovation and Practice of the Foundational Courses of Mathematics and Chemistry in Forestry and Agriculture Majors of Chinese Universities in the 21st Century," sponsored by the Teaching Research Center of Higher Education of the Ministry of Education. The book establishes a new system of organic chemistry centered on cultivating abilities and based on analysis, with the main thread being the "Theoretical Correlation Between the Structure and Properties of Organic Compounds." This new system highlights the correlation between the structure and properties of organic compounds, providing a detailed analysis of the structure-property relationships for various types of organic compounds, aiming to elucidate the reasons behind the unique characteristics of each class of organic compounds from a structural perspective. Through the analysis of structure-property relationships, the chemical properties of all types of organic compounds are divided into three major categories: functional group reactions, alkyl reactions, and reactions involving both functional groups and alkyls, thereby enhancing the scientific nature and regularity of organic chemistry. To help readers gain a deeper understanding of the nature of organic reactions, the book places great emphasis on introducing reaction mechanisms. The book is divided into fifteen chapters: Chapter 1 discusses bond theory, the structural formulas of organic compounds, their representation methods, and the theoretical correlation between the structure and properties of organic compounds; Chapter 2 introduces the application of spectroscopic methods in organic chemistry; Chapter 5 discusses optical isomerism; the remaining chapters discuss each class of organic compounds in detail, following the order of nomenclature, classification, structural and property correlation analysis, physicochemical properties, spectroscopic analysis, and representative compounds. This book is not only beneficial for teachers to conduct heuristic teaching but also helps students develop scientific thinking, comprehension, problem-solving, and innovative abilities. At the end of the book, there are references and an index for reference. This book can be used as a textbook for undergraduate students in agriculture, forestry, water conservancy, and other biological disciplines, as well as a self-study guide for science and technology workers and correspondence students in agriculture, forestry, and water conservancy fields.
