Features: Language is the most important tool for human communication, and writing is a symbolic system for recording language. With the invention of writing, humans have overcome the limitations of language in time and space, expanded its communicative functions, and ensured the continuous inheritance and exchange of human civilization. China is a multi-ethnic, multi-linguistic, and multi-script country. The Yi people have, through their long history of social and cultural development, created their own writing system with their diligence and wisdom. In Chinese historical records, Yi script has been referred to as "Cuanwen," "Weshu," "Luowen," "Baimawen," and so on. It has a long and profound history spanning thousands of years. To promote ethnic culture and rescue and organize Yi ancient texts, Yi scholars across the country have, with the support of the Party and government, tirelessly worked to compile and publish dictionaries for the Eastern, Northern, and Southeastern dialects of Yi script. However, the dictionary for the Southern dialect, which has the largest population, has long been absent from the scene, a notable shortcoming in Yi studies. Today, through the efforts of Yi scholars such as Pu Zhangkai and relevant departments, the "Diannan Yi Script Dictionary," a collection of over 10,000 characters, has finally been published. This is a significant event in Yi studies, a cause for celebration! The "Diannan Yi Script Dictionary" can be regarded as a gem in the field of Yi studies. It will fill a gap in China's Yi studies, promote the translation, organization, and publication of tens of thousands of Diannan Yi ancient cultural heritage, and further advance the harmonious development of Yi regions.
