"Revised Notes on Human Words"

Author: Wang Guowei, edited by
Publisher:
Publication Date: 2006-09-01
Features:
1. This book is compiled based on the original manuscript of Words on Human Life. The entries are arranged in the order of the original manuscript, and the text follows the original. In several places where the quoted text in the manuscript differs from the original source, it has been left unchanged for accuracy. Only typographical errors in names have been corrected and annotated. Several entries and sentences deleted from the original manuscript are retained as they were, with annotations explaining the deletions.
2. Words on Human Life has had multiple editions, among which the edition with notes by Mr. Xu Tiufu and revisions by Mr. Wang You'an (the 1960 edition of Xuefeng Cihua·Words on Human Life published by People's Literature Publishing House, hereinafter referred to as the "Standard Edition") is the most complete. The Standard Edition is divided into three volumes: "Words on Human Life," "Deleted Manuscripts of Words on Human Life," and "Appendix to Words on Human Life."
- Volume I consists of the Wang-style manuscript published in Journal of National Essence.
- Volume II consists of several entries extracted by Mr. Zhao Wanli and Mr. Wang You'an from the original manuscript of Words on Human Life. This book includes all entries from Volume I and Volume II of the Standard Edition, plus an additional 13 entries (No. 24, 26, 28, 50, 58, 64, 65, 89, 90, 92, 93, 109, and 122).
- Entry No. 63 in Volume I of the Standard Edition is missing in the original manuscript and is listed as the last entry in this book. For easy comparison with the Standard Edition, each entry in this book is marked with the corresponding entry number in the Standard Edition [e.g., 1(24), meaning Entry 1 in this book corresponds to Entry 24 in the Standard Edition's "Words on Human Life"; 13(1), meaning Entry 13 in this book corresponds to Entry 1 in the Standard Edition's "Deleted Manuscripts of Words on Human Life"].
3. This book consists of two parts: "Corrections" and "Notes."
- "Corrections" highlights significant differences between the text of this book and the Standard Edition (with occasional comparisons to Wang Guowei's Small Talks on Literature).
- "Notes" are supplementary and revised based on existing annotations. All quoted texts are sourced. When the same book is referenced multiple times in the notes, the version is only annotated upon the second reference.
