Features: For junior high school students, English is a very important subject. In English exams, reading comprehension is one of the main question types, generally accounting for about 40% of the exam paper, and the trend is increasing year by year. The "Full-Time Junior High School English Teaching Syllabus" points out that "to improve students' English reading ability, relying solely on textbook passages is far from enough; it is also necessary to guide students in extracurricular reading according to their grade level and specific circumstances." Recently, the Ministry of Education has issued the "New Curriculum Standards," which clearly stipulates the content of reading in English teaching: junior high school students should read appropriate extracurricular materials while mastering textbook knowledge. At the same time, it requires that the reading content must be healthy,, diverse in themes, and varied in genres. The structure of the articles should be varied. It emphasizes that the reading content should have strong ideological depth, interest, knowledge, cultural value, challenge, and a sense of the times. One of the purposes of doing this is to encourage students to expand their thinking, broaden their horizons, and cultivate innovative spirit and practical ability, ultimately improving their language skills and laying a solid foundation for gradually transitioning to quality-oriented education. To better adapt to this transition process, help students master and accumulate more language knowledge, improve their reading comprehension level, and further cultivate their innovative spirit and practical ability, we have organized first-line English teachers with years of rich teaching experience. Guided by the spirit of the "Full-Time Junior High School English Teaching Syllabus" and the "New Curriculum Standards," we have meticulously compiled the "Categorized English Reading" series for junior high school. The guiding principles for the compilation of Grade 7 and Grade 8 fully reflect the cultivation of basic knowledge and basic skills; while Grade 9, while upholding the basics, appropriately aligns with the junior high school entrance examination. For students taking the junior high school entrance examination, this book is not only a reading resource but also a guide for preparing for the exam. By reading this book, readers can achieve twice the result with half the effort. The "Categorized English Reading" junior high school series has the following features:
1. Appropriate length. Junior high school students have limited vocabulary and knowledge, so reading materials with appropriate length can not only cultivate their reading ability but also foster their interest in reading.
2. Graded reading. Each reading material has a different difficulty level, generally increasing in difficulty, and continuously expands students' knowledge and improves their reading skills in a step-by-step manner.
3. Diverse themes. The reading materials include not only introductions to characters, humorous stories, social culture, scientific and technological knowledge, daily life, and historical and cultural knowledge but also fables, human geography, and other topics.
4. Authenticity. Most of the reading materials are adapted from original foreign articles and modified to meet the reading requirements of Chinese junior high school students, enabling them to better understand and appreciate them.
5. Strong timeliness. The reading materials reflect contemporary characteristics and align with the interests and needs of today's junior high school students, maintaining a distinctive feature of staying in sync with the times.
Of course, despite our efforts to meet readers' needs, this series still has certain shortcomings. We sincerely hope that teachers and students will provide valuable feedback.
