Features: The Study Guide for College English Intensive Reading is a supplementary teaching material designed to accompany the College English Intensive Reading textbook published by Shanghai Foreign Language Education Press. The main objective of this book is to embody the philosophy of human-centeredness and student-centeredness, starting from the actual situation of students, fully considering the various difficulties encountered during their English learning process, and striving to save them valuable time while improving learning efficiency. Specific features include:
1. The translation of the text and detailed explanations of difficult points are arranged side by side at the beginning of each unit, providing great convenience for students to follow the teacher's lectures in sync. For the difficult points mentioned in class, students can refer to the translation on the left for synchronous consultation or compare and reference the detailed explanations on the right, thereby doubling their learning efficiency.
2. Translation of text annotations. Many students find it challenging to fully grasp the English annotations in the text, so we have translated all English annotations in the text into Chinese, which we believe will greatly benefit students during their preview of the text.
3. Since most of the texts in the textbook are sourced from English originals, the wide range of topics, profound ideas, and complex backgrounds make it difficult for students from different cultural backgrounds to understand the texts. To help students better grasp the essence of the articles, we have included a "Background Knowledge of the Text" section.
4. Based on the College English Teaching Syllabus and the College English Test Band 4 and 6 Syllabus, we provide detailed explanations of key vocabulary in the text. The explanations aim to help students summarize memory techniques, introduce related common phrases, and include a typical exam question for assessment, thereby helping them build a solid vocabulary foundation.
5. Emphasis on distinguishing easily confused words. As English learning progresses, students encounter more and more synonyms, and it is precisely these synonyms that add difficulty to our English learning, leading to frequent mistakes in various communication contexts and the CET Band 4 and 6 exams. Therefore, in this section, we compare and analyze these easily confused words to help students clarify their true meanings in different linguistic contexts.
6. To closely integrate regular college English learning with the CET Band 4 exam, we have arranged past CET Band 4 exam questions in the corresponding units, ensuring they are integrated throughout the college English textbook learning process. After students practice these questions, we provide serious analysis and explanations to help them adapt early and pass the exam smoothly.
7. The exercises at the end of each unit come with reference answers, followed by Chinese translations. Any difficult points are further explained.
8. Considering the special importance of reading comprehension, which accounts for 40% of the CET Band 4 exam, we have specially included reading skill guidance and translations of textbook reading materials to draw students' attention to the importance of reading.
9. In the CET Band 4 exam, writing accounts for 15%. Past exam experience has shown that without regular writing practice, it is difficult to achieve ideal scores. In fact, writing not only needs to be practiced but also practiced in the right way. To ensure students' practice is targeted, we have arranged writing skill guidance and analysis of past writing exam questions. Through systematic guidance and practice, we hope to help students build a solid foundation in writing.
10. The last item in each unit is the CET Band 4 Achievement Test with Explanations. This is the final assessment for each unit, with question types and difficulty levels identical to the CET Band 4. After the test questions, we provide reference answers and detailed solutions. We hope that through self-assessment, students can not only understand their mastery of the unit but also determine their future efforts.
