Publish Date: 2002-04-01
Features: Most human diseases are related to genetic variations in patients, and molecular genetics has become a crucial component of various clinical disciplines. This book was completed through the supplementation and revision of three national-level continuing education projects, national knowledge update courses on gene diagnosis and gene therapy, and teaching materials for medical doctors and postgraduate students at Peking University. It consists of five parts. The first part, Clinical Molecular Genetics and Genomics Basics, discusses clinical advancements from cytogenetics to molecular biology. It covers Mendelian genetics, non-Mendelian genetic phenomena, the Human Genome Project, genomic imprinting in tumors and leukemia, immunogenetics, and more. The second part, Clinical Molecular Genetics Research Strategies and Methods, includes common methods for polymerase chain reaction and nucleic acid detection, gene chips, clinical genetic counseling and family studies, gene therapy, DNA vaccines, and other related techniques. The third part, Molecular Genetics of Clinical Diseases, is related to diseases in various medical specialties and involves tumors such as leukemia and lymphoma, hemoglobinopathies, G6PD deficiency, mitochondrial diseases, and other molecular genetic disorders. The fourth part, Ethics, discusses international guidelines on ethical issues in medical genetics and medical counseling. The fifth part, Methodology, introduces common computer resources in molecular genetics and routine molecular biology experimental methods and procedures. This book is suitable for intermediate-level and advanced personnel and graduate students in the biomedical field.
