Features: Since its publication in 1993, A History of Physiology in China has been well-received by a broad audience of physiologists for its detailed historical materials and rich academic content. The original editorial team, in the preface of the book, has already elaborated on the importance and significance of writing a history of Chinese physiology, stating that it "is both a need for the development of physiology in our country and a historical task completed by our generation." The development of modern and contemporary physiology in China has spanned most of the 20th century, and this book documents this historical process from different periods and perspectives. The 1980s and 1990s saw rapid development of physiology on the mainland of China. However, since the book was published in 1993, some materials from the 1990s were not included. To address this, we invited some scholars to supplement the content. Additionally, we invited scholars from Hong Kong and Taiwan to write about the development of physiology in these regions, making the book more complete and truly becoming a comprehensive summary of the development of physiology in China during the 20th century.
