Features: A solid foundation supports flourishing leaves. Only by valuing the training of basic sketching skills can one achieve profound expertise in their field. The Central Academy of Fine Arts Affiliated High School has always adhered to a rigorous sketching teaching system, demanding students possess solid fundamental skills to lay a foundation for future artistic development. However, the training of basic skills cannot be rushed or done superficially—it must be thorough, diligent, and patient. Students must learn to select expressive perspectives, observe changes in angles, and understand variations in spatial relationships. By observing objects from different angles, one can gain a fresh perspective on sketching and a new experience. On the surface, this is a training method, but in reality, it hones students' manual skills, helping them accumulate a sense of touch and expand their artistic repertoire. It enables students to see clearly with their eyes and draw skillfully with their hands. This is also our primary teaching goal—to emphasize both knowledge dissemination and skill development.
Sketching portraits are fundamental exercises in sketching but also a distinct art form—portraiture. For beginners, studying sketching portraits can cultivate their sketching abilities and develop good observational habits. This book follows the teaching principles of progressing from simple to complex, from shallow to deep, and in a step-by-step manner, making it a reference for art students and enthusiasts to accurately and successfully draw sketching portraits.
