Features: The Mustard Seed Garden Manual of Painting, commonly known as The Mustard Seed Garden Manual of Painting, is a Chinese painting technique textbook that has been popular domestically for over three hundred years, hailed as "a must-have for every painter" (He Yong, Preface). Among the numerous painting manuals and collections of paintings that have circulated since the Qing Dynasty, the influence of this book, especially its impact on the common people, is second to none. The Mustard Seed Garden is located at the foot of Lanyin Mountain in the Xixi New Area of the city, featuring ancient-style garden architecture. It adopts the name of the garden created by Li Yu near Xiaohoutai in Jiangning during his lifetime, built in memory of Li Yu. Li Yu (1610–1680), styled Lixiong, was a native of Lanting. He was a renowned dramaturgist, playwright, and novelist of the early Qing Dynasty. His dramatic works were praised by the modern master of qu opera, Wu Mei, as the "Qing Dynasty ," and he was considered equal to Feng Menglong and Ling Mengchu in the creation of colloquial narrative fiction.
