The Fragrance of Booksflows on: A Collection of Essays on Book Catalogs and Documents by Shen Jin

Author: Shen Jin
Publisher:
Publish Date: 2006-09-01
Features: This book is broadly divided into three aspects: The first is the textual research of ancient books, such as "An Initial Exploration of the Editions of The Holy Map," "Weng Fanggang and the General Catalogue of the Siku Quanshu," "Manuscripts, Their Value, and Identification," and "Liu Yazi and Wujiang Literature." The second is an introduction to the rare books in domestic libraries like the Beijing Library and Shanghai Library, as well as those held in the United States, such as "An Overview of the Rare Books in the Beijing Library," "The Ancient Books and Literary Collections of the Shanghai Library," and "A Brief Introduction to Chinese Rare Books Held in the United States." The third part consists of prefaces, postfaces, and commentaries written by Mr. Shen for his books and photocopied ancient texts, such as "Preface to The Biographical Chronology of Weng Fanggang," "Foreword to The Biographical Chronology of Gu Tinglong," and "Autobiographical Preface to The Jade Green Record from the Book City." Nine of these were written during his time in China, while the rest were composed in his spare time while working in the United States. Since most of them were published in academic journals in Taipei, readers in mainland China have found them difficult to access. Now, they have been compiled into this collection and are honorably launched by Textbook Normal University Press as the seventh volume of the "Harvard-Yenching Library Academic Series" to be enjoyed by readers.
