Patient's question:
My baby, the corners of his mouth twitch uncontrollably. The doctor said it's tics. Can tics be treated?Doctor's answer:
Children may have convulsions. This is a group of movement disorders that occur during childhood, with an unknown cause, and are characterized by repetitive, rapid, purposeless, and unconscious contractions of one or more muscle groups. The parts of the face that have been affected are common, such as the eyebrows, blinking, eye twitching, shoulder twitching, and involuntary muscle contractions of the upper and lower limbs, as well as unconscious vocalizations or swearing. It can be a simple localized muscle twitch or a complex involuntary movement. It is often accompanied by symptoms such as attention deficit, obsessive thoughts and behaviors, and self-injurious behaviors. Brain organic diseases such as chorea, Wilson's disease, and epilepsy myoclonus should be excluded.
