Practice—The Key to Success
Schedule time to practice the trumpet/bugle in your daily routine. If you view practicing the trumpet/bugle as important as your daily tasks, you will have ample time to practice it every day. Try to find a place where you can focus fully and make it a habit to practice there every day. Start with exercises like long tones or simple technical drills to warm up, just like an athlete who needs to activate their mind and muscles before playing. Work hard on the difficult passages and ensemble excerpts mentioned in class until you can play them perfectly. Don’t just practice alone—set aside some time to train with the accompanying CD for ensemble practice. Towards the end of each practice session, you can play some fun, favorite short pieces to cultivate interest.
