Features: When we study this collection of Mr. Pei, we must pay special attention to his spirit of diligent research and continuous progress, such as valuing the summary of practical experience, academic theoretical research, and the application and exploration of new technologies. Mr. Pei's research activities were all based on work practice and gradually expanded along with the development of practice. In the beginning, the work was relatively simple, and the conditions in all aspects were poor, with few things to learn from. Despite this, he still conducted theoretical discussions while practicing under the guidance of Marxism. For example, he believed that archives must be classified and that classification must adhere to the principles of "facilitating research" and "facilitating access." He also proposed the method of "cataloging according to the classification system" and the separate compilation of "basic catalogs" and "auxiliary catalogs," and based on these principles and methods, he formulated the "Party and Organization Material Management Method." After some practical experience, he actively sought opinions from the central departments to continuously summarize experience, improve work, enhance standards, and move forward. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, the situation changed, and various conditions underwent significant transformations. The scope of work practice became broader, and the number of issues requiring research also increased. First, regarding how to manage the archives of the Party and the state and how to build the archival work of the Party and the state, he studied the experience of the Soviet Union, summarized our own experience, and believed that centralized and unified management should be implemented, starting with the various agencies. The archival work of the agencies should then be addressed by focusing on document processing, followed by the gradual establishment of archival management institutions for the Party and the state, formulating plans, strengthening guidance, supervision, and inspection, and comprehensively improving archival work. Second, he conducted serious research on a wide range of professional issues, including the definition of archives, the importance of archives and archival work, the distinction between archives and materials, the establishment of archives by document processing departments, the classification of archives, the basic work of archives, the development and utilization of archives, the compilation and research of archives, the safety protection and confidentiality of archives, the modernization of archival management, academic and historical research on archives, archival regulations and legal construction, running archival publications and conducting archival publicity, cultivating talent, improving quality, mastering basic skills, and a series of relationship issues in archival work, as well as the ideological and work styles of archival workers. Mr. Pei wrote documents (including drafting) and articles, proposing and publishing many insightful views.
