Features: This book tells a real story that happened in Edinburgh, Scotland. A small dog named Bobby followed his poor owner, Old York, on the streets of Edinburgh. In 1858, York fell ill and had no money for treatment. He didn’t survive and died in a small inn shortly after. After Bobby carried his owner’s body to the church cemetery for burial, he stayed to guard the grave for fourteen years. During those fourteen years, the homeless Bobby endured hardships to stay by his owner’s side. For example: He was once tricked to a place over ten kilometers away. Bobby discovered this and rushed back overnight, leaping down from a castle into the fog and injuring his leg. After recovering, he returned to guard the grave. He never longed for a comfortable life and willingly suffered hunger and cold to stay with his owner. No matter the harsh winter or scorching summer, or through storms and rain, he always stayed by the grave until he died in 1872. Bobby’s love and loyalty to his owner moved the people of England. To allow him to continue accompanying his owner after death, he was exceptionally buried in the church cemetery and a monument was erected in his honor.
