Features: Over the years, several publishers have independently selected and published many of my individual short story collections, but each one fell short of my expectations. The mix of versions has not been good for me or for readers. Now, I have selected these pieces myself, presenting a relatively complete collection of short and medium-length fiction—a summary for myself and a convenience for readers. After turning fifty, my ambitions remain, and I remain vigilant against stagnation and against writing that becomes slick due to an overly academic mindset. Publishing this collection, I will no longer be lost in self-pity. Loneliness will follow, and I will pick up my and set off anew.
