As the saying goes, "Familiar with three hundred Tang poems, even if you don’t compose, you’ll still sing them." Therefore, Three Hundred Tang Poems holds even greater significance. There are many anthologies of Tang poetry, and there are no fewer than ten editions of Three Hundred Tang Poems. However, among all the anthologies, the one compiled by Hongtang Tuishi during the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty has the widest circulation and greatest influence. This anthology is based on Tang Shi Si Cai (Selected Tang Poems), edited by Shen of the Qing Dynasty. The selection criteria were "focusing on the most well-known and essential works of Tang poetry." The standard was to choose poems that were "easy to memorize," making them suitable as children's (literary initiation) and as home textbooks, so that children could learn them from a young age, and even the elderly would not forget them. This book is based on the reprinted Chen Wanjun's annotated edition by Sifeng Yin She, with reference to other popular editions, and selects and pairs illustrations from various Ming and Qing dynasty painting anthologies such as Tang Shi Huapu (Poetry and Painting Anthology of the Tang Dynasty), Shiyu Huapu (Poetry Residue and Painting Anthology), Lidai Mingjia Huagao (Sketches of Famous Painters Through the Ages), Sanxi Tang Huabao (Painting Treasure of the Sanxi Hall), Gu Shi Huapu (Gu Family's Painting Anthology), and Ma Yi Huabao (Ma Yi's Painting Treasure).
