Features: During the translation of Rebirth, the translator gradually became aware of the characteristics of young adult literature translation and continuously adjusted the translation strategy to ensure the work meets the needs of readers.
1. The thinking of adolescents has gradually shifted from concrete-figurative thinking to abstract-logical thinking, but during this process, concrete and intuitive things are more likely to capture their interest. This cognitive characteristic requires the translator to use language that is catchy, concise, and refined, which is essentially a higher-level requirement for the colloquialization of language in young adult literature. Adolescents are highly sensitive to language, and an obscure word or a vague image can diminish their reading interest. This is one reason why the translator avoided using difficult or technical terms and opted for colloquial language when translating this novel.
2. On the rhetorical level, both Chinese and English employ various rhetorical devices to enhance the text's interest and impact. However, the differences in rhetorical traditions between the two languages and the numerous non-corresponding linguistic phenomena pose challenges for the translator. Nevertheless, as long as the inherent and pragmatic meanings of specific rhetorical devices are taken into account and appropriate measures are adopted, functionally equivalent translations can still be created.
3. Cultural issues in young adult literature translation.
