Dark Tower II: Three Cards

Features: The Three-Card Monte is the second volume of the novel The Dark Tower. The story of The Dark Tower draws inspiration, to some extent, from Robert Browning's narrative poem Sir Roland's Return from the Dark Tower (this work is also influenced by Shakespeare's play King Lear). The second volume of The Dark Tower, Gunman, tells the story of Roland as the last Gunman in a transformed world, finally capturing the man in black, a wizard he had pursued for a long time—though for how long, we do not know. The man in black turns out to be a fellow named Walter, who falsely claims to have had ties with Roland's father before the world transformation. Roland continues his quest for The Dark Tower. Along the way, he is attacked by various mysterious creatures and brings back a drug-addicted man from New York, Eddie Dean, to his world, who becomes his friend. They travel together and meet a self-isolated African American woman named Odetta, as well as Odetta's evil alter ego, Dita. The four continue their journey, and Odetta and Dita gradually merge into a new person, Susan, who later marries Eddie.
