Is squinting a symptom of childhood Tourette syndrome?

Patient's question:

My child always squints, especially when he is scolded. This is worse in such situations. Is it Tic Disorder?

Doctor's answer:

If you keep twitching your eyebrows and eyelids, you are likely to have a tic disorder. Tic disorders primarily occur during childhood and adolescence. It is a condition characterized by involuntary, repetitive, rapid motor tics, which can be vocal tics or tics involving one or more muscles. In addition to the above manifestations, some children may also have symptoms such as inattention, hyperactivity, or obsessive-compulsive behaviors, lasting at least two weeks. If the course does not exceed one year, it is called transient tic disorder, and chronic tic disorder is defined as lasting more than one year.
