He served as the national chief engineer and dedicated his life to the field of art printing and currency printing. Using over a decade of his spare time, he studied the principles of writing Kai Shu efficiently and quickly based on the calligraphy theories of Chinese calligraphers. He then summarized and published the standard practice books for the Ou, Yan, and Liu styles, as well as the interframe structure practice book for the Liu-style Kai Shu. After the "Cultural Revolution," his eldest daughter, Liu Lun, inherited her father's wish to continue compiling standard practice books for other calligraphic styles.
