Features: The idiom is a special form of language created by the Chinese people in their productive labor practice and belongs to the category of fixed expressions. It generally consists of two parts: the first part is a vivid metaphor, like the riddle, and the second part is an explanation or clarification, like the answer, which is very natural and fitting. For example, "Nirvana Bodhisattva crossing the river" implies "in danger of one's own life." In certain linguistic contexts, only the first part is usually spoken, the second part is "left behind," and people can still understand and guess its original meaning, hence the name "idiom." The earliest occurrence of the term "idiom" dates back to the Tang Dynasty. The Old Book of Tang·Biography of Zheng Qian already mentions the so-called "Zheng Hou Idiom Style" (a type of "idiom" poetry). However, as a linguistic form and phenomenon, it had already appeared long before the Pre-Qin period. Idioms have distinct national characteristics and a rich sense of life. They are highly expressive, humorous, witty, and thought-provoking, often appearing in modern crosstalk and skits, beloved by the masses. Ancient idioms are rarely found in written records and are mainly passed down orally in the folk. For example, as recorded in Qian Daixin's Record of Constant Sayings: "Sending a goose feather a thousand miles, the gift is light but the sentiment is heavy—a saying from the Song Dynasty recorded by Fu Zhai." Such idioms are still in use today. Idioms are widely familiar to the masses and are an indispensable part of our modern language learning.
