1. One Book Section: Collects materials adopted and borrowed from classical novels for "Jin Ping Mei."
2. Author Section: Collects relevant materials on the study of the author of "Jin Ping Mei."
3. Version Section: Collects version materials of "Jin Ping Mei."
4. Commentary Section: Collects reviews of "Jin Ping Mei" since its publication.
5. Influence Section: Divided into two parts: the influence on novels and the influence on opera.
Due to the fact that operas based on the stories of figures like Wu Song, Ximen Qing, and Pan Jinlian are generally categorized as "Water Margin plays," this section only includes those listed in Zhu Yi Fu's Comprehensive Catalogue of Classical Opera Titles (except for those included in the catalog). Most of the materials compiled in this book date from before the May Fourth Movement. Some materials, however, are included due to special needs and exceed this time frame. The materials in each section of the compilation are arranged in chronological order by the authors, with a few exceptions due to similar content. Each entry is annotated with the era, author, volume number of the source book, and the version used. If an entry is quoted from another source, the original source of the quote is also noted. For materials from the same version, the version is only annotated under the first occurrence of the entry.
