Features: He Qifang (1912-1977) was a renowned Chinese literary theorist, poet, and writer, and served as the Director of the Institute of Literature at the Chinese Academy of Sciences (now the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences) and a member of the Committee of Philosophy and Social Sciences. This book collects 15 representative academic essays by him, covering classical literature research, literary theory, and literary criticism, such as "On Dream of the Red Chamber," "Qu Yuan and His Works," "Evaluation of The Story of the Pipa," "Cao Xueqin's Contributions," "On Ah Q," "Correctly Handling Inheritance," "Creating Literature for the New Era," as well as the significantly influential "Preface to Stories of Fearlessness." In accordance with the selection principles of the Selected Writings of Scholars of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences by the Research Administration of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, this book primarily includes academic essays written by the author during his tenure at the Institute of Literature. Originally, it should have started with "Qu Yuan and His Works," but considering the specific circumstances of Comrade He Qifang, we selected his works "On Folk Literature" written in the 1940s and "On the Story of Liang Shanbo and Zhu Yingtai" written in the early 1950s, with "On Folk Literature" as the first article in this collection.
