Features: Teachers Lian Xiaoquan and Wei Jingwen have selected 100 pieces of music from the works of over 80 composers and violinists, compiling them into six volumes. The entire collection includes commonly used pieces for exams, competitions, concerts, and teaching. These works feature both older composers and violinists as well as young contemporary composers and violinists, offering a rich and diverse content. It is currently the most comprehensive introduction to Chinese violin works, being the most extensive and focused collection of Chinese violin compositions available. The publication of this collection not only facilitates our learning but also promotes the creation, teaching, and performance of Chinese works, contributing positively to the dissemination of Chinese music. This collection has several distinctive features:
First, its comprehensiveness. It collects nearly all the important and representative works of China in the 20th century, from the works of composers like Ma Sicong and Sang Tong in the 1930s and 1940s to those of young composers like Zhou Long in the 1980s, as well as the violin romance Chashan Chun by Zhong Xinming, composed in 2001. The works span almost the entire 20th century.
Second, its diversity. The entire collection consists of six volumes, featuring 100 pieces by over 80 composers. These works include short, refined, and universally appealing pieces, as well as longer compositions. Some are based on folk music, while others employ Western classical or modern compositional techniques. There are also pieces adapted from film and television music or original songs. This showcases the vibrant variety of Chinese Violin Works.
Third, its technical complexity. The collection includes works with a wide range of technical demands.
Fourth, its novelty. This collection features works that have not been previously included in other collections. It includes such pieces, making them accessible to a broader range of performers and expanding the repertoire of Chinese violin works. This is the "novelty" of this collection compared to others.
Fifth, its ease of retrieval. Many published collections of Chinese violin works lack a user-friendly arrangement, making it difficult to locate specific pieces in the (catalog). However, this collection cleverly uses the first letter of the composer's surname in pinyin, arranged alphabetically, which simplifies the search process.
Thus, comprehensiveness, diversity, complexity, novelty, and ease of retrieval are the defining features of this collection.
